About Me: He is an assistant professor in the Department of Fuel, Minerals and Metallurgical Engineering at IIT-ISM Dhanbad, Jharkhand. Prior to this, he was a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at University of North Texas (UNT) from March 2024, where he worked on a U.S. Department of Defense-funded project titled “High-throughput Screening and Quality Assessment Testing and an AI-based In-Situ Process Monitoring and Quality Control Framework for Additive Manufacturing New Builds and Repaired Parts”. Before joining UNT, Dr. Sahu was a postdoc in the Department of Materials at The University of Manchester, UK in the EPSRC-funded NEWAM project from July 2022 to March 2024. His focus encompassed diverse aspects, including prior β-grain refinement mechanisms of wire-arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) Ti6Al4V utilizing ultrasonic impact peening and self β-grain refinement of WAAM commercially pure Ti (CP-Ti) exploiting in-situ heating and dilatometry thermal simulations. Additionally, he concentrated on micromechanical behaviour across the interface and tailored the gradient microstructure of dissimilar WAAM Ti6Al4V-Ti5Al5V5Mo3Cr employing various methodologies like high resolution digital image correlation (HRDIC), large area EBSD, EDS and DICTRA. He earned his PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur in September 2022. His doctoral research focused on the micro-mechanism of deformation and damage evolution in CP-Ti, leveraging in-situ EBSD, DIC, mechanical testing and crystal plasticity simulations. With a strong research background, Dr. Sahu is an active explorer in the field of deformation and damage mechanics across length and time scales, utilizing state of the art characterization and simulation tools.

Research Interest: Mechanical metallurgy, Physical metallurgy, Additive manufacturing, Dissimilar materials, Micro-structure engineering, Electron microscopy, Texture, Crystal plasticity simulations, Light metal alloys.
