IIT (ISM) Dhanbad with the collaboration of CIL established the state of art CIL Innovation & Incubation Centre (CII Centre) under the flagship program – Atal Innovation Mission (AIM). Its aim is to engage the community at large in innovation and entrepreneurial activities. The centre focuses on nurturing early innovators to ideate in the domain of Technology Innovation and Community Skill Development (Highlighting the technology domain areas of CIL, for aligning with the possibility of promoting economically viable start-ups in the core business area of CIL and allied sectors) such as Sensors & Electronics, Mine Automation and Process Control, Mobile and Information Technology; Innovations in Mining Process, Technologies, Mine Machinery; Software-based Simulation and Optimization, CAD/CAM; IoT & Block Chain; Alternative Energy Audits; Clean Energy for Carbon Neutrality; Safety, Health and Environment, etc, and providing opportunities to innovate and design unique and incentivized solutions for the immediate beneficiaries like local community peoples, contract workers of CIL, students & employees of the institute, industry, society and nation as a whole.
Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre
Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Programme (MMTTP) aims to implement this NEP recommendations, focusing on quality teaching, equity, online education, technology use, Indian language promotion, vocational education, and multidisciplinary education.
Naresh Vashisht Centre for Hydrogen & CCUS Technology
The center formally started operating on 10th January 2023, the date on which the Memorandum of Association (MoA) was signed between the Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad and the Vashisht Foundation.
Centre for Societal Mission
In consonance with the ‘Unnat Bharat Abhiyan’ scheme initiated by Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, a “Center of Societal Mission (CSM)” has been operational since 2015 at Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad as a part of national initiative of Government of India to enable processes that connect institutes of higher education with local communities, to address the development and challenges of rural India through participatory processes and to utilize an appropriate technologies for accelerating sustainable growth. To accomplish sustainable and inclusive growth through education and awareness, villages have been adopted by IIT(ISM) through imparting quality education and general awareness about Social,Environmental and Health by increasing opportunities for improvement of quality of life in the villages around IIT(ISM) Dhanbad.

Center of excellence in renewable energy
IIT(ISM) SKILLING DRIVE is for empowering women for green jobs in solar sector. It is a free training facility to all registered candidates inside IIT (ISM) Dhanbad campus, with skill training center run by a dedicated team comprising of program coordinator, trainers, mobiliser and support staff. Free 2 month training in Solar-Based solutions for green jobs and livelihoods, solar panel and solar pump technicians or mutually agreed training course in renewable energy sector at the training center, dedicated for women employment generation and promoting micro entrepreneurship.
