About Me: Dr. Subham Ranjan joined the Department of Fuel, Minerals and Metallurgical Engineering at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad in July 2026. He completed his B.Tech., M.Tech., and PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from IIT Kanpur. He earned his PhD in February 2025 under the supervision of Prof. Dipak Mazumdar, and his doctoral thesis was titled “Role of Two-Phase Gas-Liquid Flows in Iron and Steelmaking Reactors: A Mathematical and Physical Modelling Study.” During his PhD, he was awarded the prestigious Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship (PMRF), followed by the Fellowship for Academic and Research Excellence (FARE) from IIT Kanpur. Prior to joining IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, he worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Korea University on computational fluid dynamics (CFD) of sustainable ironmaking processes. He also has nearly two years of industrial R&D experience at Jindal Stainless (Hisar) Limited, where he worked on applied research and process optimization. His research lies at the intersection of CFD and process metallurgy, with a focus on multiphysics modelling of high-temperature metallurgical processes, particularly hydrogen-based ironmaking and secondary steel refining.

Research Interest: 1) Steelmaking, 2) Sustainable Ironmaking, 3) Computational Fluid Dynamics, 4) Water Modelling, 5) Slag/Metal/Refractory Interactions, 6) Process Modelling
