About Me: I am Bidhan Chandra, a faculty member in the Department of Chemical Engineering at IIT Dhanbad. I work primarily in fluid mechanics and transport processes, focusing on transition to turbulence. I have completed my B. Tech in Chemical Engineering from NIT Durgapur, followed by Ph.D in Chemical Engineering from IIT Kanpur under the supervision of Prof. V. Shankar. My Ph.D thesis focused on the transition to turbulence in the flow of polymer solutions through rigid and deformable microtubes, wherein we combined several experimental techniques, like Particle Image Velocimetry, Pressure drop measurements, high speed imaging and Rheological characterisation of complex fluids to understand the onset of transition and the post-transition flow characteristics. I have worked at Delft University of Technology, Netherlands, as a post-doctoral researcher under the supervision of Prof. Christian Poelma, wherein we combined tools like Particle Image velocimetry, high speed imaging, and Ultrasonic image velocimetry to investigate the laminar-turbulent transition for the flow of suspensions. Currently, at IIT Dhanbad, we focus on understanding the transition to turbulence for the flow of suspensions and polymers through rigid and deformable channels. The research work performed in our group is relevant to the transport of crude oil, slurry transport, food processing, blood transport, micromixing, and wastewater treatment.

Research Interest: Experimental Fluid Mechanics, Rheology of Complex Fluids, Slurry Flow application in waste water treatment, Additive Manufacturing, 3D Printing, Hydrodynamic Stability, Particle-laden Flows, Pulsatile Flows application in Blood flow.
