Ph.D. Admission (Externally Funded)
ELIGIBILITY OF CANDIDATES
1.1.1 Essential criteria for Ph.D. in Engineering
  • An applicant must have a Master's degree in Engineering in the relevant subject with first class/division or a minimum of 60% marks/CGPA of 6.0 (on a 10 point scale), OR
  • An applicant must have a Bachelor's degree in Engineering with a minimum of 80% marks/CGPA of 8.0 (on a 10 point scale), as per Table 8. OR
  • An applicant must have a Master’s degree in Science or an allied area with first class/division or a minimum of 60% marks/CGPA of 6.0 (on a 10 point scale).
1.1.2 Essential criteria for Ph.D. in Science
  • An applicant must have a Master's degree in the relevant subject with first class/division or a minimum of 60% marks/CGPA of 6.0 (on a 10-point scale), OR
  • An applicant must have a Bachelor's degree in Engineering with a minimum of 80% marks/CGPA of 8.0 (on a 10 point scale), as per Table 8. OR
  • An applicant must have a Master’s degree in Science or an allied area with first class/division or a minimum of 60% marks/CGPA of 6.0 (on a 10 point scale).
1.1.3 Essential criteria for Ph.D. in Humanities and Social Sciences
  • An applicant must have a Master's degree in the relevant subject, Arts, Commerce, Humanities and Social Sciences with first class/division or a minimum of 60% marks/CGPA of 6.0 (on a 10 point scale), OR
  • An applicant must have a Bachelor's degree in Engineering with a minimum of 80% marks/CGPA of 8.0 (on a 10 point scale), as per Table 8. OR
  • An applicant must have a Master’s degree in Engineering / Technology / Science / Commerce / Management with first class/division or a minimum of 60% marks/CGPA of 6.0 (on a 10 point scale).
1.1.4 Essential criteria for Ph.D. in Management
  • An applicant must have a Master's degree or equivalent in Management or allied areas or Engineering / Technology with first class/division or minimum of 60% marks/CGPA of 6.0 (on a 10 point scale), OR
  • An applicant with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with a minimum of 80% marks/8.0 CGPA, OR
  • An applicant must have a Master’s degree in Science / Arts / Commerce with first class/division or a minimum of 60% marks/CGPA of 6.0 (on a 10 point scale), OR
  • An applicant who has qualified for CA/ICAI/ICWA/CMA, with first-class/division or a minimum of 60% marks/CGPA of 6.0 (on a 10 point scale) in Bachelor’s degree.
1.1.5 Essential criteria for Ph.D. in IEM
  • Master’s degree in Engineering in the relevant subject with first class/division or a minimum of 60% marks/CGPA of 6.0 (on a 10 point scale), OR
  • An applicant must have a Bachelor's degree in Engineering with a minimum of 80% marks/CGPA of 8.0 (on a 10 point scale), OR
  • An applicant must have a Master’s degree in science or an allied area with first class/division or a minimum of 60 % marks/CGPA of 6.0 (on a 10 point scale).
1.1.6 Essential criteria for Ph.D. in Electrical
  • B. Tech. or equivalent in Electrical / Electrical & Electronics / Electrical & Instrumentation Engg./ Electronics & Communication Engg.
  • M. Tech. or equivalent in Electrical Engineering with specialization in the fields relevant to Electrical Engineering with B.Tech. or equivalent in Electrical / Electrical & Electronics / Electrical & Instrumentation Engg./ Electronics & Communication Engg.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering means regular full-time Bachelor’s degree. A candidate with AMIE or similar degree is not eligible for admission.

  • Colour blind candidates are not eligible for admission in Applied Geology.

M.Sc/M.Sc. Tech/Integrated M.Tech/M.Tech. in Applied/Exploration/Marine Geophysics or related fields including Earthquake Science, Geo-exploration, Petroleum Exploration, Remote Sensing, Geoinformatics, Geological Technology, Petroleum Geosciences, etc.

  • ME/M.Tech/MS (Research) in Chemical, Petrochemical, Petroleum, Biochemical, Biotechnology, Civil, Energy, Environmental, Nanotechnology, Metallurgical, Materials Science, Mechanical, Polymer Science Engineering and allied areas.
  • OR B.E./B.Tech in the above disciplines.
  • OR M.Sc. (with CSIR/UGC NET JRF) in disciplines aligned with Chemical Engineering research at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad.
