Network Services

IIT(ISM), Dhanbad has a large campus network consisting of both wired and wireless network which includes academic, hostel and residential areas. There are approximately 10,000 users in the campus LAN. All the hostels and department buildings are connected to the Computer Centre through FOC. The Computer Centre is the heart of Campus Network; housed with core switches, wireless LAN controllers, firewalls, load balancers etc. Adequate redundancies have been made in the critical resources located at the core and distribution layer of the network for service continuation in case of faults. Links from multiple ISP’s are used for redundancy and availability. IIT(ISM) is running a Network Complaint Module as part of its MIS where users log their complaints.

Data Centre Services

The Data Centre comprises state of the art servers and storage. In-house developed MIS modules, e-office, biometric attendance, software like Ansys, Comsol, Abacus, Matlab, etc. are hosted in the Data Centre. Large number of VMs are created for hosting several services. Tilde account is provided to all faculty members to host their webpage.

Software Available:

VPN Connectivity:

IIT(ISM) offers its users to access Campus e-resources while out of campus through VPN. The Computer Centre has installed a Secure Socket Layer VPN (SSL-VPN) server to allow access to IIT(ISM) Campus LAN resources remotely through the Internet. SSL-VPN employs encryption and other strong security protocols and allows two devices to create a private, secure communications tunnel through the Internet. This ensures that only authorized users can access the IIT(ISM) network remotely through VPN.

Telecom Infrastructure:
  1. At present, we have 30 DID (Inward Dialling Direct) incoming and outgoing and one PRI- 30 (Primary Rate Interface) channel for internal distribution of 1000 lines.
  2. Institute is using Siemens Hipath 4000 device for catering EPBAX solution to the stakeholders.
  3. The system is also equipped with call budgeting software with 24 port analog extension card (42 nos.) and 1 IP extension card with Consendo software License.
IP Surveillance System:

IIT(ISM) had deployed an IP surveillance system to cater the security requirements. IP cameras are installed at entry and exit points of main campus as well as at many other strategic locations backed by storage to hold recording.
