Electrical Engineering Department at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad has extensive national and international research links. Its continuing aim is to provide a vibrant, highly stimulating environment for conducting selected research carefully in topical areas that are of the highest international standard, thereby, attracting the best Ph.D. students.

Research environment and Culture

The Department is active in using its research base to actively promote wider economic benefits across the region and beyond that are aligned with sustainable development goals and societal and economic grand challenges. For this purpose, Electrical Engineering Department has chosen to focus research activities on following thematic areas:

High Voltage Engineering
Applied AI/ML
Computational Electromagnetics
Computational Modeling/Bioinformatics
Focus areas include condition monitoring of large power equipment, electromagnetic field computation, insulation response analysis, and the testing and diagnosis of transformer insulation systems.
Research involves AI-driven strategies for enhancing energy efficiency in electric drives, intelligent control systems, data-driven battery management systems (BMS), and machine learning-based motor control.
Research is centered around multiphysics simulation, analysis, and design of electrical machines and components-such as eddy current brakes utilizing advanced computational techniques.
The research integrates systems biology, computational modeling, and bioinformatics to address critical problems in cancer therapy and drug discovery.
