Ph.D. in Physics
- Selection for the admission to the Ph.D. (Physics) is through the national level entrance examinations such as GATE, NET/JRF, CSIR etc. followed by a comprehensive viva-voce.
- Students completing their M.Sc./M.Tech. degrees in IITs and other eminent institutes may also apply for Ph.D. in the department.
- The students registered for Ph.D. will receive a monthly fellowship as per the guidelines of the institute.
- The Department of Physics offers Ph.D. in various disciplines such as Solid-State Physics, Condensed Matter Physics, Optics and Photonics, Laser and Plasma Physics, Biophysics, Atomic and Molecular Physics, Computational Material Science, High Energy Physics, Nuclear Physics, etc.
- The institute owns Central Research Facility (CRF) which is equipped with a wide range of advanced research facilities including XRD, HRTEM, FESEM, UV-VIS-NIR Spectrometer, Raman Spectroscopy, EPMA, SPM, HRMS, etc. to facilitate experimental researches in various areas.
- In addition, the institute has central High Performance Computational (HPC) facility for theoretical and computational modelling and simulations.
- Department of Physics has been regularly publishing research articles in reputed peer reviewed national and international journals of high impact factors.
- Some of the research works of the department has also been acknowledged by Govt. of India and highlighted by national and international media.
- Our Ph.D. students have won laurels at national and international levels.
- Many of them have obtained post-doctoral positions in prestigious universities in India and abroad. In addition, many of our students have successful carriers in academia and industrial sectors.
