IIT(ISM) CAMPUS LIFE


CAMPUS LIFE

IIT(ISM) Dhanbad renders an experience of being at home away from home. Located on the undulating geographical contours and in the coal-capital of the country, it has a lush green campus extended over 218 acres acres of land. Studying in this tranquil and serene atmosphere becomes a lifelong memory to cherish. Here is a brief details of the major facilities available:

Hostels

There are total eight (6) nos. of Boys Hostel and 2 nos. of Girls hostel

All the hostels are equipped with Mess facility with furnished and hygienic dining halls. The other basic amenities such as wi-fi, recreation rooms with television, sports facilities comprising of badminton, courts, basketball courts, volley ball court, gyms and cafeteria are made available for providing a homely stay of students there.

Guest Houses

Senior Academic Hostel is a well-furnished Guest house for accommodating Institute Guests (Faculty members, students and others). There are total of 20 rooms and 11 Suites, which are fully air-conditioned with facilities of Television and Wi-Fi are available. It has its own kitchen, where one can have healthy and hygienic food on prior intimation.

It also has an Executive Development Centre, the place for continuing Education. The office of the Professor of Continuing Education and Career Development Centre are located in this building. The Centre facilitates Training, courses for executives/faculty members etc. and also facilitates smooth conducts of Placements activities for students. This building has accommodation facility with 80 rooms and 30 Suites with fully furnished boarding/loadging facility available for academic guests.

Sports

The Institute possesses an array of sports infrastructure for students. The Students’ Activity Centre is equipped with all sorts of indoor sports activities like badminton, table tennis, billiards, yoga hall, Karata hall, boxing arena, chess hall, carom hall, handball court, gyms with all equipment of international standard, one Swimming pool of dimension of 50 m x 18 m. One can enjoy swimming under the supervisor of highly qualified coaches and lifeguards.

The outdoor facilities include two big playground namely Lower ground and Upper Ground with provision of athletic track of 400 m and football in Lower Ground, while Cricket could be played in the Upper Ground.

There are basket balls courts, squash complex, volley ball court, lawn tennis court of good standard for providing a quality sport time to sports enthusiasts.  

Cafeteria/Canteen

As per UGC’s guidelines, Institute administration encourage students to have hostel food instead of junk foods. So, there is less provision of outside food inside the campus. Only a canteen is available which is run between 8 am to 10 pm., where students can relish all sort of cook food like rice, chapatti, paratha, sabji, noodles, sandwich, fruit juices etc.  

Health Centre

To ensure good health of students, faculty and staff of the Institute, there is a 20 bedded Health Centre. The institute is in a process of upgrading the check-up facilities with 100 bedded capacity. It is operational for 24 x 7 where one can have emergency treatment as and when required. A round the clock ambulance service, homeopathic doctors and many specialist doctors visit the centre every week for treatment.

Auditoriums

The Institute has two big auditorium and one Open Air Theatre to conduct various programmes/seminars workshops. The grand Penman Auditorium is the oldest with a seating capacity of  600 and Golden Jubilee Lecture Theatre is quite a new with a capacity of 233.These are fully air-conditioned halls with other facilities like PA system are also available.   

Transportation

The facility of “Campus Shuttle” is provided to students to make their mobility easy and fast from different parts of the campus. There are two nos. of shuttles which move within the campus between 6:00 am to 11:00 pm with a fixed time-schedule so that student can get benefit of it.

Fests/Festival

IIT(ISM) hosts a variety of cultural and technological fests throughout the year. The biggest fest of its kind is SRIJAN, which is an example cross cultural interaction of students. It is a weeklong programmes, where students organize various kind of cultural programmes like dancing, mono-acting, singing, drama, etc. Popular music rock stars, Bollywood singers become part of this show to rejuvenate students with their singing and performing skills.
