As part of the nationwide #CatchTheRain Campaign of the National Water Mission, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Water Resources, RD & GR, Govt. of India, the EIACP Programme Centre (RP), Department of ESE, IIT (ISM), Dhanbad, organized an Awareness Programme on "Rainwater Harvesting and Groundwater Recharge" on 14.07.2026. The programme featured an expert lecture, a field visit, and a hands-on demonstration of the Institute's rainwater harvesting infrastructure. Educational posters, awareness materials, and infographics on rainwater harvesting, groundwater recharge, and water conservation were also displayed and distributed to reinforce key messages. The programme encouraged students to adopt water conservation practices and become Water Conservation Ambassadors, inspiring sustainable water management within their schools, families, and communities.

As part of #VanMahotsav2026, the EIACP Centre, Dept. of ESE, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, in association with Horticulture Section, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, organized Seed Ball Throwing and Plantation Drive under the #EkPedMaaKeNaam campaign on 7 July 2026. As a meaningful continuation of the Seed Ball Making Workshop organized on 2 July 2026 at IIT (ISM), the seed balls prepared by participants during the workshop were dispersed across suitable locations to promote natural regeneration, biodiversity conservation, and ecological restoration. Native tree species, including Chakundi, Neem, Mango, Karanj, and Amla, were also planted. Faculty members, staff, students, research scholars, and other stakeholders enthusiastically participated, reaffirming their collective commitment to a greener and more sustainable future.

As part of the Van Mahotsav 2026 celebrations, the EIACP Programme Centre, Dept. of ESE, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, in collaboration with Jai Dharti Maa Foundation, Dhanbad, organized an Organic Farming Exposure Visit, Plantation Drive under "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" campaign, and Mission LiFE: Lifestyle for Environment Awareness Programme on 03 July 2026 to promote environmental stewardship, and environmentally responsible lifestyles. Participants gained valuable insights into the principles of organic farming, sustainable agriculture, and environmentally responsible farming practices. A plantation drive was conducted at Utkramit Uchch Vidyalay, Lowadih, where around 30 saplings were planted and distributed. The Mission LiFE awareness programme encouraged students to adopt sustainable lifestyles and environmental responsibility. The programme strengthened environmental awareness and inspired participants to adopt sustainable practices for a greener, healthier, and sustainable future.

As part of the Van Mahotsav 2026 celebrations, the EIACP Programme Centre, Department of Environmental Science & Engineering, IIT (ISM), Dhanbad, in association with the Horticulture Section, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, under the aegis of MoEF&CC, Govt. of India, organized Seed Ball Making Workshop titled “Small Seeds, Big Change: Nurturing the Roots of Green Restoration” along with an interactive Thumb Impression Campaign titled “Every Thumbprint, A Promise to Nature, Together for a Greener Tomorrow" on 02nd July 2026. Participants actively prepared seed balls using soil, compost, and native seeds, gaining hands-on experience in seed conservation, promotion of native plant species, and nature-based restoration practices. Through their thumb impressions, the participants symbolically pledged their support for a greener and more sustainable future, demonstrating that one thumbprint, one leaf, one pledge, and one action can create countless positive impacts.

Turning Waste to Wealth! The EIACP Programme Centre, Department of ESE, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad on 06th June 2026, organized a Lecture-cum-Hands-on Demonstration of patented Rapid Organic Waste Stabilizer (ROWS) technology for 21 students from R.S. More College, Govindpur inspiring sustainable lifestyles under Mission LiFE's Reduce Waste theme. The participants gained firsthand exposure to ROWS technology, which converts organic waste into stabilized, nutrient-rich organic fertilizer within just 4–6 hours, demonstrating an innovative approach to decentralized waste management and circular economy practices. They were also introduced to the seven themes of Mission LiFE and the transformative impact of individual actions in driving collective environmental change. The programme not only enhanced awareness regarding sustainable waste management but also motivated the participants to become advocates of responsible environmental practices within their homes, institutions, and communities.

Invited Keynote Speaker Dr. Gurdeep Singh, Executive Member, NORMI Research Foundation, New Delhi, and Adjunct Professor, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, delivered a keynote lecture on "Environmental Clearance Process" and shared his extensive knowledge, practical insights and personal experiences on the environmental clearance framework, regulatory requirements, environmental impact assessment procedures, and the importance of compliance in achieving sustainable and environmentally responsible development. Organized by EIACP Programme Centre, Department of ESE, IIT (ISM), Dhanbad on 09.06.2026.

On the occasion of World Environment Day 2026, the EIACP Programme Centre, Department of ESE, IIT (ISM), Dhanbad under the aegis of MoEF&CC, Govt. of India, organized a Sit-&-Draw / Poster Making Competition on 05.06.2026 under the global theme “Climate Action” and under the campaign #NowForClimate. The event was inaugurated by Dr. Shekhar Chintamani Mande, President, INSA, in the presence of Prof. Sukumar Mishra, Director, IIT (ISM); Mrs. Sakuntala Mishra, President, Deepti Ladies Club, IIT (ISM); Shri Prabodh Pandey, Registrar, IIT (ISM), Prof. Alok Sinha, HOD/ESE & Coordinator, EIACP (PC-RP); along with deans, faculty members, officers, staff, and students of the Institute. Participants through their artwork, they beautifully conveyed messages of environmental protection, climate action, waste reduction, and sustainable living.

Invited Keynote Speaker, Dr. Dharmendra Kumar Meena, Senior Scientist, ICAR-CIFRI, Kolkata, delivered an insightful lecture on "Waste Valorisation for Greening of Environment", in alignment with Mission LiFE theme - Reduce Waste, highlighting the growing global waste challenge and discussed innovative circular economy approaches for converting agro-industrial and organic waste into valuable resources, particularly eco-friendly and cost-effective fish feed for sustainable inland fisheries. The lecture strongly emphasized the importance of waste minimization, environmental sustainability, collective climate action, and responsible resource utilization for building a greener and more sustainable future.

The EIACP Programme Centre, Department of ESE, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad celebrated World Earth Day 2026 on 22nd April, with enthusiasm and purpose, aligning with the global theme “Our Power, Our Planet.” From insightful expert talks to showcase of posters received under the nationwide AI-based Poster Making Competition for UG and PG students, encouraging innovative ideas for sustainability and environmental action, and academic exposure visit to the Department of Environmental Science & Engineering and the IIT (ISM) EIACP Centre, providing participants with valuable insights into laboratory facilities, ongoing research activities, and environmental monitoring techniques, while also strengthening awareness of Mission LiFE and the importance of adopting sustainable lifestyle practices.

Under the Mission LiFE Keynote Lecture Series (2026–27), the EIACP Programme Centre (RP), Department of ESE, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, organized a lecture-cum-interaction session on 01.04.2026, titled, An Introduction to Radiation, Radioactivity and Radiation Protection by Dr. Pazhayath Mana Ravi, Former Head, Environmental Studies Section, BARC. His lecture on provided key insights into the fundamentals of radiation, its sources, detection, and associated health and environmental impacts, while emphasizing radiation safety, regulatory practices, and the importance of informed and responsible behaviour, including healthy lifestyle practices, safe waste disposal, and responsible technology use with awareness of radiation in electronic devices and systems, promoting informed behaviour for safeguarding human health and the environment.

In observance of World Water Day, celebrated annually on 22nd March, the EIACP Programme Centre (RP), Department of Environmental Science & Engineering, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, in association with The Institution of Engineers (India), Dhanbad Local Centre, successfully organized an awareness programme and keynote lecture on “Gender-Inclusive Water Governance” on 28th March 2026. The session was delivered by Prof. Sheeja Jagadevan, who provided a compelling perspective on the theme “Water & Gender”, emphasizing that while the global water crisis affects everyone, it does not affect everyone equally. Sheeja Jagadevan highlighted the unequal impact of water challenges on women and emphasized the need for inclusive decision-making, equitable access, and gender-responsive systems. The session concluded with discussions on implementing these principles on campus, reinforcing the message that inclusive water governance is essential for a sustainable and equitable future.

As part of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad's ongoing Centenary Celebrations, and under the Mission LiFE Keynote Lecture Series [2025–26] – “Harnessing Innovation for Environmental Sustainability: Policies, Practices, and Partnerships,” the EIACP Programme Centre (RP) at Department of ESE, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, organized a lecture-cum-interaction session on “Leveraging AI and Geospatial Technology for Environmental Sustainability" by Prof. Ashok K. Keshari, Professor, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, IIT Delhi, at Dept. of ESE on 09.02.2026. Prof. Keshari highlighted the the transformative role of AI-driven and geospatial solutions in promoting sustainable environmental management and informed decision-making. He also talked about sustainable resource management, including assessment of surface runoff, groundwater recharge, and the monitoring and mitigation of groundwater contamination arising from wastewater discharge and leachate movement.

The EIACP Programme Centre, Dept. of ESE, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad celebrated World Wetlands Day 2026 on 2nd February 2026, in alignment with the global theme “Wetlands and Traditional Knowledge: Celebrating Cultural Heritage.” The event was graced by Shri Navin Kumar, Former General Manager, Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation, as the Chief Guest, along with Prof. Dheeraj Kumar - Deputy Director, IIT (ISM); Prof. Alok Sinha - HOD/ESE; and Prof. Suresh Pandian - Assoc. Prof./ESE. Shri Navin Kumar shared valuable insights on wetland conservation, bird diversity, and community-led conservation efforts in Bihar. A documentary video on wetlands was showcased to sensitize participants about the ecological, cultural, and conservation significance of wetland ecosystems. An infographic presentation competition on wetlands was also organized, encouraging participants to creatively express the importance of wetlands and traditional ecological knowledge.

Prof. Quaff highlighted the development and characterization of sustainable adsorbent materials, with a special focus on the innovative use of Ganga sand as a low-cost and eco-friendly adsorbent for effective leachate treatment.

Mr. Sharath's lecture highlighted India’s pathways for a low-carbon future, covering climate change fundamentals, global frameworks, and strategies such as clean energy transition, sustainable urban planning, and nature-based solutions, while emphasizing the role of finance, technology, and research opportunities in resilience and green innovation.

As part of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad's ongoing Centenary Celebrations, and under the Mission LiFE Keynote Lecture Series [2025–26] – “Harnessing Innovation for Environmental Sustainability: Policies, Practices, and Partnerships,” the EIACP Programme Centre (RP) at Department of ESE, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, organized a lecture-cum-interaction session on “Microplastics: Tracing the Invisible Hazard Across Ecosystems, Nutrition, and Healthcare", by Dr. Abhrajyoti Tarafdar - Assistant Lecturer, School of Food Science and Environmental Health, Technological University Dublin on 25.07.2025. His lecture shared critical insights into the growing threat of microplastics (MPs), tiny plastic particles that are increasingly found in our environment, food, and even clinical settings, that are able to travel across ecosystems and accumulate in living organisms, posing risks to both environmental and human health.

As part of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad’s Centenary Celebrations and on the occasion of World Environment Day, the EIACP Programme Centre, Dept. of Environmental Science & Engineering, in collaboration with Dhanbad Nagar Nigam and knowledge partner Asar, organized a One Day National Conference on “Innovating for Clean Air.” The event was graced by Chief Guest Shri Aditya Ranjan, Deputy Commissioner, Dhanbad, and Guest of Honour Prof. M. K. Singh, Dean (Academic), IIT (ISM). The conference fostered dialogue on innovative policies, technologies, and community-driven actions for cleaner air. A report titled “Improving Air Quality Through Responsible Mining” was released, jointly prepared by Dhanbad Nagar Nigam, Dept. of ESE, and Asar. A technical session on “Sustainable Mining and the Way Forward” featured keynote talks by experts from IIT Guwahati, IIT Kharagpur, BCCL, Megh Pyne Abhiyan, and IIT (ISM) Dhanbad.

As part of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad's ongoing Centenary Celebrations, and under the Mission LiFE Keynote Lecture Series [2025–26] – “Harnessing Innovation for Environmental Sustainability: Policies, Practices, and Partnerships,” the EIACP Programme Centre (RP) at Department of ESE, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, organized a lecture-cum-interaction session on “Assessment of Air pollution Induced Stress, Tolerance and Accumulated Particulate Matter on the Selected Indigenous Plant Species in Delhi NCR Region” by invited keynote speaker Prof. Arvind K. Nema, Provost, IIT Delhi - Abu Dhabi, & Professor, Dept of Civil Engineering, IIT Delhi. The session explored how native plants in urban ecosystems respond to pollution stress and function as natural sinks for particulate matter. It emphasized the importance of integrating green infrastructure with urban design to mitigate air pollution and reduce human exposure.

As part of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad’s ongoing Centenary Celebration, the EIACP Programme Centre, Department of Environmental Science & Engineering, organized an educational visit for 15 Class XI students and two teachers from Jharia Raj (+2) High School, Dhanbad, on 13th June 2025. The visit aimed to introduce students to environmental research and inspire them toward sustainable living. A key focus was on the Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) campaign, which encourages simple, eco-conscious habits like reducing single-use plastic, conserving energy and water, and managing waste responsibly. Students also explored ESE laboratories and learned about various environmental instruments, standard lab protocols, and ongoing research. The visit offered valuable hands-on exposure and reinforced the importance of awareness and responsible action in protecting the environment.

As part of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad's ongoing Centenary Celebrations and under the Mission LiFE Keynote Lecture Series [2025–26] titled “Harnessing Innovation for Environmental Sustainability: Policies, Practices, and Partnerships,” the EIACP Programme Centre (RP) and Centre for Mining Environment, Department of ESE, organized a lecture on “The ESG Imperative: Unlocking Resilience, Capital, and Global Relevance” on June 12, 2025. Invited Keynote Speaker, Dr. Manoj Chaturvedi highlighted how ESG integration is reshaping the future of business, policy, regulation, and innovation. He emphasized ESG is no longer a compliance formality but a central pillar of risk resilience, stakeholder trust, and long-term competitiveness. The talk offered insights into global trends, regulatory convergence, and actionable pathways for Indian institutions to lead responsibly in an evolving global landscape.

As part of the World Environment Day 2025 celebrations, the EIACP Programme Centre, Department of Environmental Science and Engineering (ESE), IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, organized a Sit-&-Draw/Poster Making Competition for school children and UG/PG students on this year’s theme, “Ending Plastic Pollution.” The competition aimed to foster awareness and encourage creative expression among young minds on one of the most pressing environmental issues of our time. The event was held at Student Activity Centre (SAC), IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM and was conducted across five categories, ensuring inclusive participation across age and academic levels. The objective was to motivate students to visualize and creatively communicate solutions to combat plastic pollution through art and design. The event was inaugurated by Mrs. Sakuntala Mishra - President, Deepti Ladies Club, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad.

On the occasion of World Environment Day the EIACP Programme Centre, Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad in collaboration with Horticulture Section, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad organized a plantation drive under the "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" campaign. The drive was conducted from 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM on 5th June 2025 and was inaugurated by Prof. Sukumar Mishra – Director, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad and his wife Mrs. Sakuntala Mishra – President, Deepti Ladies Club, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad. 321 saplings were planted across the IIT (ISM) Dhanbad campus and at the IIT (ISM) Complex, near SBI Bank. These included a diverse mix of fruit-bearing, forest, evergreen, and value-added plant species, significantly contributing to the institute’s green cover and environmental sustainability goals, promoting urban greening for enhanced environmental wellness and climate resilience.

The EIACP Programme Centre, Department of Environmental Science and Engineering (ESE), in collaboration with the Sports and Physical Education Centre, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, organized an energizing one-hour Yoga Session from 6:30 AM to 7:30 AM on 5th June 2025 to commemorate the World Environment Day. The session took place at the Student Activity Centre (SAC), IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, and aimed to promote holistic well-being and mindfulness in alignment with environmental consciousness.

The event “Cyclothon: Pedal the Wheels, Turn the Tide against Plastic Pollution” aimed to raise awareness on plastic pollution while promoting a sustainable lifestyle. Cloth bags were distributed to local vendors and the public, accompanied by interactive awareness efforts highlighting the harmful impacts of single-use plastics and encouraging the adoption of eco-friendly alternatives.

Mr. Agarwal’s insights showcased scalable solutions for integrating green energy & eco-friendly practices into agro-industrial systems, reinforcing India’s commitment to environmental sustainability & climate resilience.

As part of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad's centenary celebrations, the EIACP Programme Centre, Dept. of ESE, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, in collaboration with Yugantar Bharati, Ranchi & IIT(ISM) MEL-HUB celebrated World Earth Day on 22.04.2025, fostering meaningful dialogue, awareness & action in support of environmental protection & sustainable development aligned with this year’s global theme, "Our Power Our Planet", emphasizing the urgent need to accelerate transition towards renewable energy and a more sustainable planet. The event was graced by Chief Guest-Shri Saryu Roy, Hon’ble Member, Jharkhand Legislative Assembly & President, Damodar Bachao Andolan, and Guest of Honour-Prof. Ashok Kr. As part of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad's ongoing centenary celebrations and under the Mission LiFE Keynote Lecture Series [2025-26], the EIACP Programme Centre (RP), Dept. of ESE, jointly with The Institution of Engineers (India), Dhanbad Local Centre, organized a lecture-cum-interaction session on "Environmental Governance, Audits, and ISO Norms: A Roadmap to Compliance and Excellence for a Sustainable Future" on April 1, 2025. Led by Ms. Gargi Ghosh (Advisor) and Mr. Ishan Mehrotra (Manager Sustainability) from The British Standards Institution (BSI), India. The session highlighted the role of environmental governance, audits, and ISO norms in promoting sustainability and regulatory compliance aligning with the Mission LiFE initiative. The interactive discussion engaged students, scholars, faculty, IEI members, and industry professionals, offering insights into careers in environmental auditing, CSR, and ESG frameworks, fostering sustainability and responsible environmental practices.

As part of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad's centenary celebrations, the EIACP (PC-RP), Dept. of ESE, in collaboration with IEI, Dhanbad Local Centre, celebrated World Water Day 2025 on March 22nd. The event highlighted sustainable water management, glacier preservation, and microplastic pollution. Prof. Subrat Hait (IIT Patna) delivered a keynote on “Microplastics in Water: From Pollution to Solution.” Documentary films on glacier preservation emphasized freshwater conservation, and participants took the World Water Day Pledge in Hindi. School students visited IIT (ISM)’s SBR plants, artificial recharge, and rainwater harvesting structures to learn about wastewater treatment. They also explored the EIACP Centre and ESE labs, engaging with digital resources, awareness programs, and hands-on demonstrations of environmental research instruments, enhancing their understanding of water conservation and pollution monitoring.

Dr. Mousumi Gupta, Research Lead at the Asian Development Research Institute (ADRI) and Coordinator of the EIACP Centre at ADRI, visited the EIACP Programme Centre (RP) at Department of Environmental Science & Engineering (ESE), IIT (ISM) Dhanbad on 7th March 2025. The visit focused on fostering collaboration between the two EIACP Centres and aligning their efforts with EIACP mandates to drive impactful environmental initiatives. A key area of discussion was strengthening awareness programs under the Mission LiFE initiative, with an emphasis on promoting sustainable practices and enhancing community engagement.

The Department of Environmental Science and Engineering (ESE), in collaboration with the EIACP Programme Centre (RP) and the Society of Environmental Science and Engineering (SESE), organized an awareness program on "Nasha Mukt Bharat" on February 27, 2025. The event took place at the Seminar Hall of the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering (ESE), where participants collectively took a pledge, both in English and Hindi to fight against drug abuse and contribute towards building a drug-free nation.

Can we eradicate plastic? No. But with biodegradable bio-plastics, we can redefine sustainability! Invited Keynote Speaker - Dr. Partha Chakravarty, MD, Rigel Bioenviron Solutions Pvt. Ltd., Kolkata, India and an alumnus of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, delivered an insightful and thought-provoking lecture on the topic “Waste to Wealth Initiative: Converting Waste Organics to Valuable Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) Bio-plastic, Bio-CNG, Bio-derivatives via Cost Effective Techniques”.

As part of the ongoing centenary celebrations of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering (ESE), in collaboration with the Department of Mechanical Engineering (ME), organized a two-day Executive Development Program (EDP) on “Integrated Low-Cost Sensors and Automation Technologies for Air Quality Monitoring and Control in the Mining Industry” on February 20, 2025. The program focuses on the growing importance of low-cost sensors and automation for air quality monitoring, emphasizing real-time data utilization for proactive pollution control.

As part of the institute’s ongoing centenary celebrations, the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering (ESE), IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, organized a “3-Day Urban Waters Forum’s 4th Annual Workshop Focus on Small Urban Centres” and was successfully inaugurated on 5th February 2025 at I2H Building, IIT(ISM), Dhanbad. The workshop was organized in collaboration with WIPRO Foundation Advanced Center for Water Resources Development and Management (ACWADAM) Biome Trust, Megh Pyne Abhiyan and EIACP Programme Centre (RP) as the organizing partner.

The Department of Environmental Science and Engineering actively participated in this R&D fair by exhibiting a dedicated stall. The stall demonstrated various patented technologies developed by the department, emphasizing their practical applications and potential contributions to environmental sustainability. Additionally, the stall showcased the Quarterly Newsletter, Monographs, and Special Editions on LiFE: Lifestyle for Environment, published by the EIACP Centre along with Mission LiFE Awareness Campaign conducted.

As part of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad's ongoing centenary celebrations, the Phase-II Plantation Drive under the "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" campaign was successfully organized on 26th January 2025 by the EIACP Programme Centre (RP) at the Department of Environmental Science and Engineering (ESE), IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, in association with the Horticulture Section, O/o Dean (Infrastructure), IIT (ISM) Dhanbad. The plantation drive, held at the IIT (ISM) Nirsa Campus, marked the successful planting of 200 saplings, emphasizing the institution's commitment to environmental conservation and sustainability.

The Department of Environmental Science & Engineering, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad and EIACP Programme Centre (RP), celebrated the 76th Republic Day with great patriotism and enthusiasm on 26th January 2025 at the Oval Garden of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad. The event witnessed the participation of School Children, Students, Research Scholars, Faculty Members, Staffs and residence of IIT(ISM), all coming together to honour the spirit of the nation.

The EIACP Programme Centre (RP) at Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad organized a Cricket Match on Saturday, 18th January 2025. This event was part of the initiative to promote the theme Adopt Healthy Lifestyle under the Mission LiFE: Lifestyle for Environment campaign.
